Exploratorium

In the Exploratorium our campers have a choice of experiments and equipment that let them explore the science around them with hands-on activities using common household materials. This week campers in the Exploratorium were excited to catch butterflies and study worms up close. Activities also included figuring out how to make a lightbulb light up and making a pulley system to retrieve gummy worms. Campers can work with also Legos and Knex or choose another investigation from the wide selection available in the Exploratorium.

Exploratorium

In the Exploratorium the Campers have a choice of experiments and equipment that let them explore the science around them with hands-on activities using common household materials. This week the campers will have the materials to make a hovercraft, figure out the best way to drop an egg safely, make Puffy Paint from scratch, stitch together wallets, look at a spider web through a microscope, put together a motor with gears and wheels, or choose another investigation from the wide selection available each week.

Exploratorium

Campers are busy investigating the elements in the Exploratorium, doing experiments and activities involving gumball structures and and flying gummy worms. Friction track races will be featured this week, along with foil boats for marble challenges.  Some campers will experiment on how to make a balloon expand by mixing two types of materials, and others will inspect the bugs and butterflies outside with a magnifying glass. We will also be investigating pond scum through a microscope and making balloon-powered racers.

During the week of August 8, Adventures campers will choose from a collection of activities and simple experiments that they complete independently. Campers can measure and collect the materials and enjoy the following experimental explorations:

  • How to grow mold
  • How to make a mini volcano erupt
  • How to make Slime
  • How to create Outrageous Ooze
  • How to make a bubble burst

This Week in the Exploratorium…

During the week of August 1, our Adventures campers may choose from a collection of simple experiments that they complete independently. Among other things, campers will collect materials and follow directions to learn the following:

  • How to make a bouncy ball;
  • How to make a balloon expand without blowing air;
  • How to create a soft, fluffy soap cloud;
  • How to make a lavalamp; and
  • How to make gummy worms dance.

Exploring the Human Heart, Brain & More!

  • During the week of July 25, our Adventures campers will be able to choose an Exploratorium activity from several exciting options that further explore the human body, including:
    • Creating an accurate Playdoh model of our internal organs
    • Creating a realistic model of a pumping heart
    • Learning about the neurons in our brain

Completely Creative Campers!

  • During the week of July 18 our Adventures campers will get completely creative in our Exploratorium as we continue our exploration of the human body.  Activities we have planned include:
    • Creating string-operated robotic arms
    • Building simple machines with Knex and 2 batteries
    • Making a stethoscope that can hear the heartbeat, and models of the digestive system (using recyclables)
    • Tracing our forms with chalk and then drawing the ‘insides’ (aka the internal organs)!

Building and Creating all Week!

  • During the week of July 11, our Adventures campers will be engaged in exciting hands-on scientific explorations of the human body in our Exploratorium,  including building and creating a large moving skeleton and robotic hands (that the children control); making a model of the bones and muscles in the arm; and creating a moving model of the human spine!

Science Comes Alive in the Exploratorium

Next week we will look forward to the following adventures:

  • Build & examine a skeleton with a large floor puzzle
  • Color & make wearable paper model of an arm bone
  • Color & make wearable paper model of a spine
  • Color & make wearable paper model of hands and finger bones
  • Measure our arm and leg bones
  • Make & attach a model of muscles to arm bone
  • Make model of a brain using Playdoh
