After School Arrangements

After School Arrangements

by Apr 9, 2021

As we look forward to warmer weather, spring athletics and more students eventually being able to return to campus at the same time, we anticipate that there may be a slight increase in students staying after school for activities.  Remember, however, that we are still in the midst of a pandemic and the monitoring of students on campus during after-school hours is vital.

With that in mind, we will require students who planned to remain on campus beyond the academic day this spring, (which ends at 3:30), to formally ‘reserve’ their after-school space.

We have put in place an Afterschool Reservation System for students in Grades 6-12.*  Lower School students in Preschool through Grade 5 must register in advance for DE360° AfterCare and Enrichment (ACE) in order to remain on campus after school.  *Note: Upper School student athletes are not required to make a reservation for days they are participating in after school practice or games.

As we return to campus on Monday, know that everyone will need to continue to follow safety precautions to ensure we keep our community as healthy as possible while making the most of everything Dwight-Englewood has to offer.  Our goal is to create an educational experience that is both safe and accessible to all.  We expect in the next few weeks to welcome all students on campus at the same time but await that decision from Dr. De Jarnett.

As a precaution to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19, group gatherings on the campus beyond the school day had been canceled, postponed or taken to a virtual format this year. However, we recognize the need for a limited number of activities as well as individual students who will need to remain on campus after school.

Our collective safety requires that we all play a part. Planning ahead is critical. In order to reserve a space, a reservation must be made for each student who is planning on staying after school for reasons other than athletics at least one day PRIOR to the planned day.   This ensures that we have adequate staffing and spaces available. Also note, students are not permitted to return to campus for activities or parent pick up after school once they leave campus for the school day. To protect the community against the spread of COVID-19, we remain a closed campus.

Once a reservation for after school is made, families will receive an email confirmation.  Prior to the date of the reservation, additional information will be provided regarding the student’s designated space on campus and pick-up instructions. Students who are not planning to participate in an organized club or activity with an advisor will be assigned to an indoor or outdoor space depending on capacity. We will plan for pick-ups close to the student’s assigned spaces.

The same safety precautions that will be in place during the school day apply to after school.  Students must wear masks while on campus – even after school.  There will be designated spaces and times for mask breaks.  Food choices will be made available afterschool through our school’s food provider, Cater To You.  Families may also plan ahead by packing a snack and drink for after school.  No outside food deliveries will be allowed.

All afterschool spaces will be supervised by faculty and staff reporting to DE360°.  Please contact the DE360° Team at de360info@d-e.org should you have questions or are planning for activities after school.
