Join our most enthusiastic educator and culinary expert in a mix of food, culture, and science.  Students will enjoy an exploration of unraveling the mystery of home cooking while learning about different food cultures around the world. We’ll be using D-E’s state-of-the art teaching kitchen in our newly-constructed middle school building. There’s no better way to celebrate the end of the “Village Project” construction than with food

Week 1 Dim Sum & Then Some

Dim sum is a style of Chinese cuisine, prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on a small plate. You might think it’s a special treat you can only afford to go out to enjoy but these delicious dumplings, buns and bowls are so simple to prepare. Join us in recreating all the favorite treats at dim sum houses. 

Week 2 Fiesta Mexicana

The art of Mexican cooking is an adventure in the perfect mixture of improv and precision.  The results offer us the comfort and homeliness of our abuela’s kitchen. From learning the secrets of making the perfect tortilla to having a chance to sample the greatest hits of traditional Mexican cuisine, come join Fiesta Mexicana!

Week 3 French Cafe

Cooking French food has never been easier. Learn how to make a variety of French classic found in cafés.  Students will learn how to order food, how to read recipes and give each other instructions while preparing standard bistro fare. Extra restaurant training will be given! 

Week 4 Korean BBQ

Korean BBQ is taking the country by storm, one smokey grill at a time. Whether you’re a kalbi-crushing aficionado or a rookie just getting your feet wet, students will learn the secrets to marinating and grilling. And the skills gained in class will make you look like you know what you’re doing in front of all your friends and family when you’re hosting your own BBQ at home.

Week 5 Mangia Italia

Ah Italy…the sights, the sounds, the smells, the beauty, and most importantly…the food.  The handmade pasta, the sauce that’s been simmering for hours, the perfectly crafted pizza margherita, they’re all ready for you to make.  Come to Mangia Italia and someday you may even open your own Osteria. 

Week 6 Sabores do Brasil

We’re venturing out to the South American continent to bring you Sabores do Brasil – the cuisines of arguably one of the most vibrant nations in the world. Brazilian food is packed full of delicious flavors like seasoned grilled meats, hearty, flavorful stews, and the most delicious condiments! We’ll be exploring hearty stews packed with beans and meat, delicious salads made with hearts of palm, treats fried in intensely flavored dende oil, and oh-so-delicious chimichurri.
