Our Immersives provide experiential learning with students having close collaboration with master level faculty as well as peers who are equally passionate about the topic. Immersives generally range from one week to two weeks in length. The students’ immersion in the topic of study over the course of a day is long enough to provide a depth of knowledge and skills building in the targeted areas. We have some exciting offerings this year that range the gamut across three major themes: Art and Design; Theater, Movement and Music; and STEM Leadership & Environmental Conservation.  Look at the description that follows for more information Young Visionaries. Immersive programs include opportunities for health and wellness activities where students participate in team-building games and get a sampling of athletics offerings in tennis, fencing, archery, yoga and golf.

Dwight-Englewood School’s Summer Connections Program is proud to offer our Young Visionaries: Art and Design Immersive this summer.  In this exciting two-week immersive, participants will explore a wide variety of artistic mediums, design tools, and thought provoking subject matter.  They will also have the opportunity to meet an established guest artist and take a virtual field trip to a select art gallery or museum.  In addition, students will stay physically active each day with their choice of athletics including tennis, yoga, archery, or fencing.

The workshops provided in the Young Visionaries: Art and Design Immersive will bring students a combination of lessons in art-making techniques, design thinking, and the development of creative and innovative ideas.  Expert teachers will guide students through hands-on projects in painting, drawing, mixed-media, and sculpture, as well as digital design tools for creating unique 2-D and 3-D products on the laser cutter and 3-D printer.

At the completion of the Young Visionaries: Art and Design Immersive, students will exhibit their artwork at a culminating event.  Parents, teachers, and students will be invited to celebrate the artistic accomplishments of program participants in the Young Visionaries Gallery on the last day of the program. The gallery will also be on view online in various formats.

We hope that your child can join us this summer for the Young Visionaries: Art and Design Immersive and be a part of our community of creative thinkers, artists, and innovators.

All students are welcome.  Sign-up early to guarantee a spot in this special program. Space is limited.

Week 1

Painting and Drawing

In this workshop students will learn a range of drawing and painting techniques and explore creative ideas through various drawing media and watercolors.

Sculpture

This workshop will give students the opportunity to explore 3-dimensional materials and construction techniques. Works of art will be inspired by nature, architecture, and other subjects that resonate for each student.

Industrial Design: Part 1

In this workshop students will design their own products for the laser cutter and 3-D printer such as jewelry, lamps, home decor, and other products they envision. In this workshop students will learn different tools and skills for designing real world products such as album covers for their favorite music, package designs for products they love, and a personal logo. Both hand drawing methods and digital software will be used to create their designs.

Mixed-Media

This workshop will immerse students in the creative process through experimentation with layering mediums such as acrylic paint and watercolor over collage materials to create personal, unique, and meaningful works of art. Students will produce a series of artworks on canvas using a range of colors and techniques that best express their ideas.
