[PAST] Discovery Day, NJ Performing Arts Center & Grammy Museum | Friday, December 9, 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM

D-E 360º’s AfterCare & Enrichment Program (ACE) is thrilled to offer a theatrical and fantastic day!

All the World’s a stage: This is a two-part experience.  On this field trip to New Jersey Performing Arts Center and then secondly to the Grammy Museum, participants will experience theater, percussion, and a little street performance with an immersive showcase available to families on video. We’ll travel first to NJPACVictoria Theatre in Newark where the children will be entertained by Recycled Percussion. HIJINX! productions are linked to a range of curriculum areas offered at NJPAC; the children will have a chance to be engaged in the performance on stage as well. We’ll then make our way to the Grammy Museum for lunch before exploring an interactive, experiential museum devoted to the history and winners of the Grammy Awards. Students will be able to be onstage and interact with every aspect of the recording process from playing electric drums, keyboard, bass, and guitar to experiencing studio recording, and DJing.  For students in Preschool through Grade 5.

[PAST] D-E 360º Fall Academic Chess Tournament | Thursday, December 8, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM

This tournament is open to young chess players from grades K-8 and who want to experience how Chess Tournaments work. Students will be  guided through the process of scoring, how to use timers and the general rules of tournament play.

Chess Tournaments give students  the opportunity to play with others to improve their strategic and critical  thinking skills through applied performance. The Academic Chess Tournament at Dwight-Englewood combines a traditional tournament with a pre-tournament workshop that will enhance student learning and overall game satisfaction in a fun and nurturing environment. This tournament is open to young chess players from grades K-5 and well as students in Grades 6-8 who want to  experience how Chess Tournaments work. Students will be  guided through the process of scoring, how to use timers and the general rules of tournament play.  Students will be awarded prizes for their participation. This Academic Chess Tournament will be rated through the United States Chess Federation (USCF).  Students must register with USCF to participate in the event and to receive a rating. Click here to join. (There is a fee for the annual membership). If you have already registered with USCF, you do not need to register again.
