Chess Tournaments 2024-2025 (Kindergarten- 12th Grade)

Guided by the leadership of Grandmaster Mackenzie Molner, the Dwight-Englewood School Academic Chess Tournaments are underway!

Chess Tournaments allow students to improve their strategic and critical thinking skills through applied performance.  Tournaments at D-E are open to young chess players in grades K-12 who want to be part of competitive Chess.  Students will be awarded prizes for their participation. 

February 2, 2025: Hunter Chess Tournament

Hunter College Elementary School | 9:15 AM

The Hunter Chess Tournament is open to young chess players from grades K-12 who want to compete head to head with other schools’ chess players. Students signed up will be led by Grandmaster Coach Mac, who will provide them feedback after each game to improve their skills. Students will be awarded prizes for their participation.

How to Register

To register for Chess Tournaments first click here to join the USCF, then click below to register for our tournaments. Chess Tournaments are certified through the United States Chess Federation (USCF).  All students must register with the Hunter Tournament and the USCF to participate in the event and to receive a rating. (There is a fee for the annual USCF membership). You do not need to register again if you have already registered with USCF for the current academic year

February 9, 2025: Dwight-Englewood Scholastic Swiss

Dwight-Englewood School 

We are hosting our own chess tournament on Sunday February 9th. It will be a wonderful tournament, hosted by our chess coach, Grandmaster Mac Molner. There will be trophies and medals awarded to all participants. 

There will be two competitions: K-6 Scholastic Swiss & Over 1800 Swiss. The K-6 Scholastic Swiss will be held from 2-6PM and the Over 1800 Swiss will be held from 10 AM – 7:45 PM. Make sure to register with USCF first by clicking here.
